What this market asks

Who will win Nevada's 2026 governor's race? The main options are Democrat Aaron Ford and Republican incumbent Gov. Joe Lombardo. Each price is the market's implied chance that candidate wins.

The bottom line

Polymarket gives Democrat Aaron Ford 52.5% and Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo 47.5%, close to a coin flip, on about $0.4 million traded. The lead has changed hands many times. Odds as of 4:00 PM PT, October 15, 2026.

What moved it

November 2025: Ford catches up. Ford rose from about 36% to 52% in early November. We didn't find a specific cause.

Spring: Ford's high. Ford rose to about 63% by early May, then fell back into the mid-50s. We didn't find specific news behind these moves. On a thinly traded market, swings like this can come from a few large trades.

August 5: GOP polls. On August 5 the Nevada Independent reported three Republican-commissioned polls showing Lombardo ahead by 9, 12 and 7 points (The Nevada Independent, updated Aug. 5). Ford dipped from 56% to 52% that day.

August 11: the big drop. Ford fell from 52% to 32% on August 11. We couldn't find a news event that day, six days after the GOP polls. A large trade is one possible explanation; we can't confirm it.

September to October: Ford climbs back. Ford worked back to about 48% by late September, then jumped to about 55% on October 3. We couldn't find a specific cause for the October 3 move.

How it settles

Polymarket resolves this market once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC have all called the race for the same candidate. If they don't all agree, it waits for the official state certification. Polymarket's own market page has the full rules.

Who's calling it

See 1 forecaster call on X for this race, with links to each post →

  • Nate Silver's model had Lombardo ahead in polling 48.1% to 43.8% as of mid-August (Reno Gazette Journal, Aug. 18).
  • Race to the White House gave Lombardo a 79.3% chance as of August 18 (same source).

The contrarian take

The strongest dated dissent is Race to the White House's 79.3% for Lombardo in mid-August, versus a market that now leans slightly to Ford. That forecast is two months old and leaned heavily on July polls, three of them Republican-commissioned. A Democratic-commissioned poll had the race tied (The Nevada Independent).

What to watch

  • Fresh nonpartisan polls. Outside polling here has been scarce (same source).
  • Lombardo's fundraising and ad advantage.
  • Election Day, November 3.
