What this market asks

Who will win Ohio's 2026 governor's race? The main options are Democrat Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Each price is the market's implied chance that candidate wins.

The bottom line

Polymarket gives Democrat Amy Acton 72% and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy 28.5% for Ohio's open governor's seat, on about $0.4 million traded. Ramaswamy was the favorite most of the past year. Odds as of 4:00 PM PT, October 15, 2026.

What moved it

Late 2025: Ramaswamy favored. Acton traded between about 29% and 41%.

March to May: back and forth. Acton first crossed 50% in mid-March and traded around 45% to 55% through spring. The lead changed hands repeatedly. We didn't find specific news behind each swing. On a thinly traded market, swings like this can come from a few large trades.

July 12: a sharp drop. Acton fell from 46% to 36% on July 12, then recovered to about 42%. We couldn't find a cause.

Late September to October: Acton pulls away. Acton rose from about 55% in mid-September to 72% by October 13, as several polls showed her ahead. On September 29 Marist had Acton up 50% to 44% and Suffolk had her up 50% to 41%, though Big Data Poll had Ramaswamy slightly ahead (Newsweek, Sept. 29). The price didn't jump that day; Newsweek put it at 62%. The bigger gains came October 3–5 and October 13. We didn't tie those to specific releases.

How it settles

Polymarket resolves this market once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC have all called the race for the same candidate. If they don't all agree, it waits for the official state certification. Polymarket's own market page has the full rules.

Who's calling it

See 2 forecaster calls on X for this race, with links to each post →

  • Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball both rate it a toss-up (Newsweek, Sept. 29).
  • Marist (Sept. 24–27): Acton 50%, Ramaswamy 44% among registered voters (same source).
  • BGSU/YouGov (Sept. 1–10): Acton 48%, Ramaswamy 45% (same source).

The contrarian take

The market gives Acton 72%, well above a toss-up rating. Recent polls show her ahead by mid-single digits at most, and Big Data Poll had Ramaswamy ahead. For the ratings to be right, Ohio's Republican lean (Trump won it by about 11 points in 2024, per Newsweek) would have to pull undecided voters back to Ramaswamy.

What to watch

  • The two candidates aren't expected to debate (same source), so polls and ad spending are the main signals.
  • Election Day, November 3.
